SILICON, Si

INTEL

Silicon is one of those elements that we hear about but seldom glimpse and, since the term Silicon Valley was coined in 1971, it has become synonymous with high-tech computing. Silicon is a semi- metal, with properties as both an electrical conductor and insulator, so it is the element of choice for making the semiconductors that form the foundation of modern electronics. Unprinted silicon wafers like these are used to make integrated circuits, which are built on top of the wafers.
