Brian Gough - Vanadium
My piece draws on a short story written by author Primo Levi titled 'Vanadium'. The story describes a post war encounter Levi experienced with a German he worked under in the IG Farben chemical plant during his time in Auschwitz. As a part of my research journey, I stumbled upon a BBC radio interview in which the author discusses the origins of his story. The finished piece explores the possible relationship between Levi's recorded voice and the printed page – substituting time with space and sound with text.
