Have a great idea for an event? The open call for proposals for Dublin City of Science 2012 was launched yesterday. Dublin will be hosting the Euroscience Open Forum in July 2012 and is looking for ideas for the public programees that will run during the year. You can find out more at www.dublinscience2012.ie/pep

Due to the bad weather we are closing Science Gallery at 18:30 today. If you are passing on your way home please pop by the shop for your last minute Christmas shopping... Please be safe on your travels. Science Gallery will reopen tomorrow, 23rd December at 8am and close at 5pm. 

Some exciting news! Science Gallery was one of three cultural institutions singled out for a Special Commendation at the prestigious European Museum of the Year Awards 2010. 

Science Gallery Director, Michael John Gorman received the Special Commendation at a ceremony in Tampere, Finland, on Saturday May 22nd May 2010. In introducing Science Gallery the judges mentioned that the innovative approaches of Science Gallery to engaging the public with science and the arts could be inspiring to the European museum community.

In yesterday's ScienceExpress researchers led by J. Craig Venter reported that they had built a genome from scratch and used it to control a cell.
